In a couple hours the witching hour will be upon us. Let’s look at what games will complement the event in a dark, murky spooky way, happy Halloween 2018

I am starting with an oldie but a goody, Alien Isolation. In this game, there are no action combat sequences like in the movies. You are the scared little mouse that has to evade the xenomorph. If that is not enough you also have to dodge the pesky android scattered about. The score really sets the mood in this game, and you better watch the scanner as that is your only lifeline. I really enjoyed this game and will give it a quick mission in the wake of the full moon.

Until dawn will keep you on your toes at all times. The game is nicely matched with decisions that put one or more characters in peril. They add the spice of quick time events and be warned if you miss it there is no coming back. This is more real life than a game because if your favourite character kicks the bucket there is no reset or start again. In my quest to save all the characters I spend hours making notes of all the consequences. I particularly like the monster design and their backstory.

I dare you to play dead space in the dark and pump the sound up. It is a bit of a mixed bag of things. You need to use your melee weapons to dismember specific body parts. The game has lots of scares and if you have a heart monitor keep an eye on the blips. There is something about a semi-abandoned ship with no escape that adds to the drama.

Last on the list is evil within 2. This open-world adventure has some interesting story choices. There are proper scary moments and blood to boot. It is a bit like a mashup of all the resident evil series with the combat style. I was surprised liking the game even though the reviews did not paint a good picture. Whatever you get up on Halloween just have fun with it. Keep it real and remember “never stop bashing those buttons”
