Unreal Engine MetaHuman Creator ups the Ante in Photoreal NPCs
This is truly astounding work from the Epic team with the newly announced MetaHuman Creator in Unreal Engine. This is worth checking out.
So What exactly is this Meta Human Creator Epic is touting about. Well for starters, no it’s not related to the Meta Human gene found in some of our DC super heroes, nor does it create more DC Meta Humans. Instead, it is a sophisticated developer toolset that allows devs, designers and artists to bring photorealistic characters to life. It makes it easier, faster to get off the ground with character creations for a multitude of platforms from Mobile Phone, Current-Gen and Next-Gen consoles, PC’s and even Hollywood movies. It is a next level technical achievement that’s really a sight to behold.
When I initially was thinking about what exactly I wanted to see in Next-Gen, it was less about improvement of graphics and more about improvements on simulations of “things”. Things including, people/characters. The way the animation works, the way they move and skin shaders, lighting and also hair. The way hair reacts to other factors such as water, wind, movement is something that has been subpar for sometime. Unreal Engine MetaHuman Creator aims to not only change all of that but to also handle most of the boatload of work for artists and engineers. All of this already in Unreal Engine 4.26.1. Which makes you wonder just how much better this system will be in Unreal Engine 5. So here’s a quick video to show you just what I’m talking about. Have a look.
