Xbox Press Conference

E3 2017 – Xbox Press Conference recap

This is the big one!  The featured image hints at what the star of the Xbox Press Conference is.  We’re talking about of cause about formerly codenamed Project Scorpio.  Find out more.

I’m going out swinging with this one and just say Microsoft killed it.  They pulled out all the stops for the Xbox Press Conference this year.  It was fantastic.  There was really a lot going on, so we’re just going to focus on the major highlights of this stellar showing.  And of cause, Project Scorpio was officially revealed.  What a beast of a machine.  All that and more just down below.

Xbox Press Conference Highlights

Straight out of the gate, Microsoft delivered the goods on Project Scorpio.  Now officially called XBOX ONE X.  This console reveal dominated the show.  It was without a doubt the star of the show.  I’m sure by now you know the tech specs as they’ve been headlined the world over.  The stand out details announced are the release date and price point.  The world’s most powerful console will be releasing worldwide on the 7th November 2017 for $499-00.  Yep, the price is a bit steep, to be honest, but Microsoft did tout this as a premium console so it’s priced as such.  I’ll admit I was a naysayer until now, my Xbox One will be on sale soon enough and you can bet it’ll be replaced by this beast.

Original Xbox backwards compatibility

In a complete surprise reveal, original Xbox games are making a comeback.  Head of Xbox Phil Spencer announced that your old school Xbox games will also be joining the Backwards compatibility program throughout the entire Xbox One family of consoles.  Not only will you be able to just pop a disc in and play, the titles that are made backwards compatible will also be available to download on the Xbox Store.

Playerunknown’s Battlegrounds

The massively popular PC battle royal game is making its way to Xbox One.  Though the title is technically still in development, Xbox One players will get their hands on it late 2017.  In addition to its release, the game will feature Xbox One X enhancements with 4K UHD and HDR upgrades.  Prepare to sink hours of your life into this shooter.

Crackdown 3

Terry Crews got us all hyped for the upcoming release of Crackdown 3.  Best part, besides his awesome energy, is that the game is releasing on November 7th, 2017.  That’s right the same day Xbox One X comes out to play.  As expected, the game comes packing Xbox One X enhancements.  That means 4K HDR for those grabbing the powerhouse console.  Prepare to drop building and cause city wide destruction.

Metro Exodus

This was another complete surprise showcase.  Players return to the post-apocalyptic world of Metro.  The atmospheric shooter looks absolutely stunning in 4K running on Microsoft’s new powerful console.  In fact, it kinda looks like Fallout out, if Fallout was in Russia and was running on a breathtaking, highly detailed engine (Sorry Fallout 4!).  This is one title that should be in your Xbox One collection when it releases.

Forza Motorsport 7

Forza Motorsport 7 is primed to give Gran Turismo Sport a run for its money.  Judging by the graphical fidelity, it might even have it beat.  But there’s more to a racing sim than just pretty moving pictures and Forza delivers.  With up to 750 cars at launch, the is without a doubt the largest collection of cars ever to feature in a Forza game.  Dynamic weather systems and day night cycles complete this rather robust racer that feature a native 4K resolution at a locked 60 FPS.  No better way to show off your shiny new Xbox One X than with this game in your collection.

Closing off with a bang, Microsoft unleashed Bioware’s Project Dylan to the world.  Officially titled Anthem, this game is touted as a Destiny killer.  It is by far the best looking game showcased at E3 2017.  And currently my most anticipated and favourite title at E3.  Looking at the facial animations, we can see where Bioware’s animation teams were primarily working.  they all were busy with Anthem instead of Mass Effect.  Because these animations are light years ahead of the mess that was Mass Effect Andromeda.  Players will jump into these Exosuits called Javelins.   You and your buddies will explore a massive open world going on adventures in this dynamic world.  I’m super excited for this shared world third person shooter.  It will be a long wait to 2018 when it releases.

I must say I’m really impressed with Microsoft’s showing.  This is very possibly the best E3 Microsoft has had in years.  The quality of games was strong in some cases and a tad bit weak in others but overall a fantastic showcase.  Xbox One X is definitely a beast to be reckoned with.  However, that price might leave some wondering if its really worth the premium.  In anycase, the ball is in your court Sony!
