After Microsoft’s Mammoth showing, the Sony Press Conference has a steep mountain to climb.  And for the most part, Sony took it in its stride.  Let’s take a look at the recap of their Showcase.

Sony is arguably the reigning champions of the E3 Press Conferences.  This year, they’re receiving a massive challenge in the form of Microsoft’s impressive showing.  We take a look at the Sony Press Conference response.  With no new hardware to speak of, Sony is focused on quality games.  And boy did they deliver.  As if Xbox One X’s massive power advantage doesn’t compete with the impressive number of quality titles on offer.  The sheer number of epic quality exclusives completely eclipses what Microsoft showcased.  As with our previous articles, we’ll only be focussing on the Highlights of the show as there’s way too much content to cover everything.

Sony Press Conference Highlights

Uncharted The Lost Legacy

Sony shows off the might of its exclusives by kicking off with the heavy hitter Uncharted franchise.  Fans are given a look at some of the gameplay in the new trailer for Uncharted The Lost Legacy.  Since Nathan has officially retired from the franchise, the adventure now follows Chloe Fraser and Nadine “Muscles” Ross.  Expect huge action-packed set pieces.  Impressive story writing and Uncharted’s trademark breathtaking visuals.  Our new heroines are certified badasses and I can’t wait to join them on their daring adventure when the game releases on August 23rd, 2017.

Horizon Zero Dawn – The Frozen Wilds DLC

Aloy is back with this new teaser trailer for an upcoming DLC.  Horizon Zero Dawn – The Frozen Wilds will see our heroine head to a frozen mountain where answers await behind a new terrifying enemy.  Not much has been shown off for the upcoming expansion.  However, with the success of the previous game, you can bet all of us will ready and waiting to jump back into Aloy’s world.

Days Gone

Sony shows off some more impressive gameplay of the upcoming post-apocalyptic survival game.  We’re given a whole different gameplay that hasn’t been shown off before.  Last time we saw Days Gone, hordes of infected were being mowed down by the protagonist.  This time we see an ambush by bandits being taken out by melee combat.  We also get to see the tactical stealth mechanic as the main character uses traps and stealth takedowns to dispatch enemy humans.  Not to mention using hordes of infected to take care of the bandits for him.  This game just gets better every time I see it.

Call of Duty WWII

What’s an E3 showing without Call of Duty making an appearance?  This year is no different.  Finally, we head back to the franchise’s World War II roots.  Call of Duty WWII will be the grittiest, most graphically advanced take on the World War II shooter genre.  Expect 4K visuals for gamers playing on PS4 Pro.  The trailer showcased some intense action and brutal violence.  This is Call of Duty as it was meant to be played.

God of War

Kratos makes his triumphant return.  Only this time, he’s a father.  Will that soften the Demigod with some serious anger issues?  Yeah actually, we see Kratos taking on a less aggressive stance with his son.  Even giving him fatherly advice on being a warrior.  The story is something that hasn’t been done before in the franchise.  Yet packed with the brutally violent action we’ve come to love about the God of War series.  Another masterpiece of a Sony exclusive awaits your playthrough when it arrives in 2018.

Detroit Become Human

What’s that you say?  Yet another Sony exclusive?  Yep, that’s absolutely correct.  You starting to see the theme here.  In Detroit Become Human, we see an Android revolution begin.  One of the many characters of David Cage’s new title frees his fellow androids and convinces them to stand up to their human oppressors.  We get to see how the player will have a multitude of choices with each scenario.  Interactive story telling is about to reach new heights.  I’m intrigued, show me more…

Destiny 2

By now, we’ve seen a metric crap tonne of Destiny 2 content.  And we’re pretty much sold on what’s on offer.  So bring on the game already.  Sony decided to instead of showing something new, just rub in the face of everyone else the platform-exclusive content.  We’re talking exclusive exotics, strikes and PvP map.  So yay I guess??  Just release the game already!

Spider-Man

What better way to end off the showcase than with yet another highly anticipated console exclusive.  Courtesy of your friendly neighbourhood Spider-Man.  Holy S&*@ Spider-Man looks amazing (excuse the pun)!  Sony finally takes the wraps off its gameplay and we get to see first hand how the title looks and plays.  There are stealth mechanics and a very satisfying melee combat system that allows Spidey to use objects in the game world on his foes.  Not to mention the breathtaking action set pieces and that glorious swinging mechanic.  All of this in a fully realised open world.  What more could you want?  A solid release date would be nice guys!

I’m so glad Sony didn’t feel pressured to release yet another PlayStation console to fight off the beastly Xbox One X.  In fact, Sony just lets its games do all the talking.  Literally, there was hardly any stage presence.  Just game after game after game.  Even though Microsoft had a larger collection of content overall, in terms of quality, Sony has it beat hands down.  Besides, most of the titles shown by Microsoft are also heading to Sony, Shiny Native 4K res or not.  It’s a close call between these two gaints of gaming.  I’ll let you decide who takes the crown.
