Destiny 2 Forsaken

Hard Pass on Destiny 2 Forsaken for me

Destiny fans are getting primed and ready to head back into the game for the upcoming Destiny 2 Forsaken.  And to that, I say, Hard Pass…Swipe Left.  Step inside to find out why.

Destiny 2 Forsaken will be arriving very soon on the 4th of September 2018.  So it absolutely breaks my heart, as a Destiny fan, to not even be bothered with that upcoming release.  And in just a moment, I’m going to share my thoughts on that reasoning.  I know very well not a lot will agree with me, but I still can’t shake the feeling that we’ve all been here before.

Rewind the time back to Destiny 1.  The first two expansions are released and the reception is somewhat lukewarm.  I am also one of the few who found it (Destiny 1 expansions) lacking even though I’m quite a fan of the game.  Then, Bungie dropped details of The Taken King Expansion.  Firstly, your Expansion Pass doesn’t include this release.  Secondly, the amount of extra content required that you have the previous two expansions to even play this one.  None the less, this release was exceptional.  I absolutely enjoyed it and it featured a massive leap over the core title and the expansions.

And yet here we are again with exactly the same thing with Destiny 2.  Your expansion pass once again doesn’t include Forsaken.  And you’re once again mandated to have the two previous expansions in order to play Forsaken.  Bungie is promising tons of new loot, exotics, features and new locations.  Just like The Taken King.  But here’s the deal breaker for me.  Destiny 2 was a massive disappointment for me.  It was so lacking in every single facet of the game. It would’ve been better off as another expansion rather than a proper sequel.

The visuals were good but not great.  The story started off interesting but it quickly faded to predictability.  The gunplay had not evolved one single bit.  Worse, I could swear the AI is dumber than the previous game.  Worst is littering the game with a crap tonne of microtransactions (This has Activision’s fingerprints all over it).  After completing the core game “story” which is ridiculously short and barely memorable.  I haven’t logged into the game for ages or even bothered spending money on the expansions.  I don’t think its worth it.

In addition to all the above reasons, news was recently released that Bungie will be working with a new Chinese investor for a brand new, None-Destiny IP.  Which means the chances of a Bungie helmed Destiny 3 is possibly off the cards.  And you know what, I absolutely approve.  Bungie is a studio I’ve very fond of thanks to their previous work on the Halo titles.  I love Halo and it’s one of my favourite franchises of all time.  And there’s nothing I would like to see more than having them distance themselves from Activision.  Who’s just as notorious for shutting down great studios as EA.  Nobody wants to see that fate for Bungie.

I’m really looking forward to whatever Bungie is working on next.  Fingers crossed that its single-player focused.  As for Forsaken, it might turn out to be great for Destiny, but its a case of too little too late.  So are you guys excited for Destiny 2: Forsaken?  Share your thought in the comments section below.
